Malaysian FIA WTCR wildcard drivers Mitchell Cheah and Douglas Khoo were satisfied with their performance in the final race of the 2019 FIA WTCR season, which was held in Sepang International Circuit last weekend.
Alongside fellow wildcard driver, MotoGP ace Hafizh Syahrin who made his 4-wheel racing debut, both Cheah and Khoo joined the ranks of World Touring Car champion and impressed the grid throughout the weekend.
With all three races took place in a tricky wet condition, Cheah finished in Top 20 position and managed to win two out of three Wildcard victories.
Cheah commented about his overall weekend at Sepang, “We are happy with the results, considering that we didn’t have very good Friday qualifying session.”
“To finish Top 20 position in all three races I think everyone is happy about the results as it was a very good weekend for us. I learned a lot and it was nice to be part of FIA WTCR grid.”
Meanwhile, Khoo brought his Cupra home in 26th, 24th and 21st in three races respectively.
“It’s been fun and challenging weekend,” said the Asian Le Mans Series LMP3 class regular about his weekend summary. “To be given a Wildcard entry is fantastic as we are able to race with the professional drivers in the FIA WTCR grid. Obviously not on pace with them, but throughout the race weekend with the rainy conditions that equalised a bit, so we managed to pull up a few position which was very good result for us.”
